This page is dedicated to explaining terminology that is often used by the Alchemy Stars community, sorted alphabetically. It is recommended to Ctrl+F or search for particular terms.

A[]

  • A1, A2, A3 — an abbreviation of Ascension 1, 2, 3. This refers to the stage of ascension that an Aurorian is at.
  • Active Skill — the primary skill that an Aurorian has access to.
  • Affinity — a mechanic where players can give Gifts to their Aurorians in exchange for stat increases, and unlocking more information in their profile.
  • Alchemy Board — refers to the tiled map that combat takes place on.
  • AoE (Area of Effect) — a commonly abbreviated term that is usually used to reference damage that is applied over a wide area.
  • ATK — an abbreviation of attack.
  • Attributes, element — refers to Fire, Forest, Thunder, or Water
  • Auto — a mode in Alchemy Stars where the game will automatically fight a stage for you.
  • Aurorian — a race in Alchemy Stars, but also used to refer to the playable characters in the game.

B[]

  • Banner — a common way to refer to any of the Recruitment options.
  • Bleeding, bleed — a type of Damage over Time (DoT) mechanic.
  • Blind — a type of Crowd Control mechanic.
  • Boss — a harder type of enemy.
  • Bossing — fighting a boss.
  • Breakthrough — refers to a mechanic that can give characters additional skill enhancements.
  • BT2 — abbreviation of Breakthrough 2. This refers to getting the second Breakthrough of a character (usually a five-star) and unlocking a skill enhancement for them.
  • BT3 — abbreviation of Breakthrough 3. This refers to getting the third Breakthrough of a character (usually a six-star) and unlocking a skill enhancement for them.
  • Buff — refers to a mechanic or skill that grants characters a stat enhancement of some kind. For example, Areia's Active Skill is a self-buff that increases her ATK (attack).
  • Burn — a type of Damage over Time (DoT) mechanic.
  • Burst — sometimes used to refer to an Aurorian's Active Skill.

C[]

  • Calamity Codex — an additional mode in Alchemy Stars, where players attempt to deal as much damage as possible to a weekly boss in order to earn rewards.
  • Captain — a combat mechanic where a character can do damage regardless of the tile colour, and also grants a bonus based on their attribute.
  • Chain Combo — A combat mechanic where Aurorians are able to release attacks after connecting a certain number of tiles.
  • CC — unfortunately, CC can stand for many things in Alchemy Stars, and people sort of advise against using it for this reason. It can stand for Crowd Control, Calamity Codex, Cross Converter, or Chain Combo.
  • Cooldown — refers for how long it takes for an Active Skill to become available again.
  • Converter — one of the four Classes in the game, usually focusing on converting tiles.
  • Cross Converter — a type of Converter where their tile conversion is the shape of a cross.
  • Crowd Control — a type of Combat Mechanic which makes enemies unable to take an action for a turn, or otherwise impedes their movement or ability to attack. This includes Blind, Fright, Paralysis, Slow, or Stun.

D[]

  • Dailies — refers to Daily Quests.
  • DEF — an abbreviation of defense.
  • Debuff — the opposite of a buff. This refers to a mechanic or skill that makes a stat worse, or impacts the target's performance in a negative way, such as with a Crowd Control mechanic.
  • Detonator — one of the four Classes in the game, usually focuses on dealing large damage to a large area.
  • Dolphin — refers to a player who is a moderate spender on the game.
  • DoT (Damage over Time) — a common abbreviation for mechanics that inflict damage over time, which is especially helpful for dealing with enemies that have a lot of HP. This includes mechanics like Burn, Bleeding, and Poison.
  • Double Chain, 2Chain — a type of Support character in Alchemy Stars that enable Aurorians to release their Chain Combo twice.
  • DPS — an abbreviation of "Damage per Second". Usually refers to a character's damage dealing capacity, and especially is used for characters that can do a lot of damage such as Detonators

  • F2P — abbreviation of "free to play". Refers to players who do not spend money on the game.
  • Fire — one of the four Attributes in the game.
  • Forest — one of the four Attributes in the game.

H[]

  • Heal, healer — a mechanic that allows Aurorians to recover HP, or Aurorians that have the ability to recover HP.

  • MBT — an abbreviation of Max Breakthrough. This refers to getting all Breakthroughs for a character, and unlocking all their skill enhancements.
  • Meta — refers to strategic aspects of the game that go beyond conventional (or casual) gameplay. Usually refers to characters or strategies which are extremely good, sometimes for certain niches.
  • Mobbing — refers to fighting multiple, weaker enemies. Some characters are better-suited for this than others, which is why it is sometimes used.
  • Mono, mono element — refers to using only one element in a single team.
  • MSQ — an abbreviation of "Main Story Quest".
  • Multi — refers to using the option to recruit 10 times, rather than 1 time.

N[]

  • Navigator, Navi — refers to Navigator, the protagonist of Alchemy Stars. Since he doesn't have an official name, this is what players commonly call him.
  • Nerf — refers to having a character, enemy, other some other element of the game having an aspect of them reduced or weakened in some way due to a change from the developers.
  • NPC — an abbreviation of "Non-Playable Character"

O[]

  • Off-colour — usually refers to using a character from a different attribute than would be normally recommended, or refers to tiles that are a different colour than desired for the current team
  • Old Seal — a unique form of Recruitment that unlocks one of four special characters: Frostfire, Mythos, Regal, and Requiem.

P[]

  • Paralysis, paralyze — a type of Crowd Control mechanic which limits the movement distance of those affected.
  • Pity — refers to a Recruitment mechanic where, after recruiting 50 times and failing to get a 6-star Aurorian, the chance to get a 6-star increases.
  • Poison — a type of Damage over Time (DoT) mechanic.
  • Prism — the primary energy in the game, used to challenge stages.
  • Proc — to activate or trigger a particular skill or effect.
  • Pulls — a common way to refer to doing Recruitments. eg. "I did a single pull on the banner."
  • Pre-emptive strike, pre-empt — refers to pre-emptive strike, which allows an Aurorian to immediately use their Active Skill on entering battle. This is usually unlocked through Breakthrough.

  • Recruit — usually refers to Recruitment to get new characters
  • Reroll — refers to when players may make an account multiple times in an effort to repeatedly try to get particular Aurorians at the start of the game.
  • Resetter, tile resetter — refers to a type of Converter that randomly resets the colour of tiles on the Alchemy Board.
  • RNG — abbreviation of "Random Number Generator", and is often used to refers to mechanics which are randomized, or otherwise rely on luck.
  • Roll — another term for Recruitment. "I rolled on Florine's banner."
  • RRR — Usually refers to the Rotating Recruitment banner.

  • Shield — a type of utility combat mechanic.
  • Slow — a type of Crowd Control mechanic.
  • Sniper — one of the four Classes in the game, usually focuses on major damage to single tiles.
  • Spire — an additional mode in Alchemy Stars. There is one spire for each element, and only Aurorians of the corresponding element can be used in each spire.
  • Splash — a damage-dealing combat mechanic that enables Aurorians to do (additional) damage in a particular area.
  • Stun — a type of Crowd Control mechanic preventing the affected for moving or otherwise acting for one turn.
  • Support — one of the four Classes in the game, usually focuses on providing healing and buffs on teammates, or debuffs on enemies.

T[]

  • TD — an abbreviation of Tourdog Studios, the studio that works on Alchemy Stars.
  • Teleport, tele — a utility combat mechanic used largely for mobility.
  • Thunder — one of the four Attributes in the game.
  • Tile resetter, resetter — refers to a type of Converter that randomly resets the colour of tiles on the Alchemy Board.

  • Water — one of the four Attributes in the game.
  • Welfare — refers to 5-star characters that were given out for free with all their respective Solamber during Events. These characters are not available outside of their event. These include characters like Bonacie, and Pittman.
  • Whale, whaling — refers to players who spend a lot of money on the game.
